WHAT ARE THE DAMAGES CAUSED BY FABRY DISEASE
The classical form of Fabry
disease is characterised by chronic and/or acute painful symptoms already in
infancy as well as remarkable fatigue. This deeply influences everyday life and
limits everyday activities.
In addition, altered sweating may
worsen those problems determining frequent increases in temperature, overheating
after exercise and inability to withstand temperature changes.
Other symptoms affecting the
gastrointestinal system, are abdominal cramps, diarrhoea, nausea.
The
main problems however derive from the accumulation of GL-3 in the kidney, heart
and brain which can lower remarkably the patient's quality and expectation of
life. The decrease in quality of life is due not only to the clinical
involvement of the disease, but also to the state of depression, low self-esteem
and desperation often arising in these situations.
